The government will initiate an audit of the accounts of the Central Bank (BDL). The measure was announced by Prime Minister Hassan Diab in a presentation to ambassadors of the countries of the International Support Group to Lebanon (ISGL).

In the presentation, the government also said that it is almost ready to announce an economic plan. “We will announce a comprehensive plan,” said President Michel Aoun. “We are putting the last touches. We know what needs to be done, and we have the will to do it,” said Diab.

In the meeting, Aoun reiterated the government’s call for financial support from the international community, especially $11 billion of soft loans and grants that the international donors pledged to provide to Lebanon at the CEDRE conference. Aoun said: “We are counting heavily on the funding which will be allocated primarily for investing in infrastructure projects.”

The ISGL includes China, Egypt, Germany, Italy, Kuwait, Russia, UAE, UK, USA, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the EU, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the League of Arab States, the World Bank, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
