June 22, 2011- Alfa, the mobile operator managed by Orascom Telecom, launched ‘Alfa Waffer’ (Arabic for ‘save’), a new prepaid plan that offers discounted rates on voice calls, text messages, and value-added services.
The new ‘Alfa Waffer’ plan offers Alfa prepaid subscribers three new recharge cards at lower prices reaching up to 36 percent discount compared to current prices and all having a 30-days validity. The $10 (LL15,000) recharge card offers 30 minutes air time, the $16.66 (LL25,000) recharge card offers 60 minutes air time, and the $30 (LL45,000) recharge card offers 120 minutes air time. All prices include VAT.
‘Alfa Waffer’ recharge card enables prepaid subscribers to benefit from 25 percent discount on local and international text messages and all available value-added services.
Alfa will also introduce the $4 ‘Emergency’ recharge card, which allows subscribers who run short of credit to recharge their line as many times as they want during the 30-days limit.
To benefit from the discounted services, new subscribers can buy the Alfa Waffer SIM card for $5, while existing Alfa prepaid subscribers have the option to switch to “Alfa Waffer” at no additional cost.
MTC touch had announced, earlier in June, its plan to release three additional kinds of prepaid recharge cards with the same prices. Despite these discounts, the rates of the two state-owned mobile operators are still very high, as compared to regional and international averages.
