June 23, 2011- "Government should not be qualified for grace period," the General Labor Confederation (GLC) said in a statement on Wednesday (June 22) following its meeting held under the chairmanship of Ghassan Ghosn.
The statement urged the newly born government to start making decisions and handling citizens' needs.
The GLC said that the Cabinet Policy Statement as well as hurried actions “will set the standards of relation between the union and the government.”
The GLC cited a number of priorities that should be tackled by the government, including increasing the minimum wage rates, correcting other wages so they would keep pace with cumulative inflation, and issuing immediate decision to restore purchasing power to wages and salaries.
The union also addressed the problems encountered in oil policy, the food products and services growing prices, the Social Security Fund, as well as in the taxation policy.
