The American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) will be responsible of the medical management of the new private Keserwan Medical Center (KMC) in Ghazir. The hospital will open officially within a few months.
KMC is owned by Caremed Holding. Dr. Cesar Bassim holds majority ownership in Caremed Holding, which also owns the Center Hospitalier du Nord (CHN) in Zgharta.
Bassim said: “Both hospitals will be exchanging their physicians and talents. AUBMC physicians will be treating in KMC and vice versa.”
Some AUB residents will also conduct their training sessions in KMC. It will be a university hospital with all the administrative and infrastructure requirements. The hospital will offer all medical services. “Developing the research programs will be also in cooperation with AUBMC,” said Bassim.
“It was feasible to open in Ghazir, since there is a big shortage in hospitals in this region,” said May Fares, General Secretary of Caremed Holding. The nearest hospitals are in Jounieh, Jbeil and Ajaltoun.
The hospital will have a total built-up area of 34,000 square meters. It will comprise 165 beds. “We will start with 70 clinical beds first, to reach gradually full capacity,” said Fares.
The new hospital will create about 600 jobs, and about 150 doctors will offer medical services.
