Grant for reducing poverty
Canadian Development Agency offers $1.7 million for social reforms

The Ministry of Finance and the World Bank signed, on August 2nd, a $1.7 million grant agreement for the Second Emergency Social Protection Implementation Support Project.

The ministry said that the funds were provided by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) according to an agreement signed between the World Bank and CIDA in May 2010.

The grant received the cabinet’s approval in July 2011, and became effective on September 1st. According to the agreement statement, the objective of the project is to support the government in the implementation of its National Poverty Targeting Program.

The program entails the delivery of social transfers and services to improve living standards of the population, mainly the vulnerable and underprivileged segments of the society.
