The Ministry of Telecommunications has signed an agreement with the Cypriot electronic communications company Cyta to undertake the construction and maintenance of CADMOS-2, a subsea telecommunications cable between Lebanon and Cyprus.

The cable is expected to be operational by the end of 2024 and will connect Lebanon to the world. It will replace CADMOS, which was installed in 1995 and whose lifespan is about to expire.

Cyta will donate the entire cost of the project.

The Ministry of Telecommunication said that the initial stage of the bidding process will start early next year in cooperation with Cyta.

The existing CADMOS cable provides significant Internet capacities and constitutes a safety connection in case of a breakdown in the IMEWE submarine network.
