MTC touch and Alfa Telecom announced the launch of the ‘3G Pilot’ phase on their networks. Two thousand customers of each network have started using the 3G services for a one month free trial period.

The Minister of Telecommunications, Nicolas Sehnaoui officially launched the third generation pilot version on September 20.

The customers were chosen based on a draw system and according to predefined criteria, including the compliance of their handsets with 3G and their residence within the 3G coverage area. The Pilot version and the first phase of the 3G technology implementation would cover the area of Beirut, stretching from the coast of Amchit up north to the southern city of Sidon.

The 3G services would enable users to enjoy high speed and quality performance (with a 4 GB volume) on services like High Speed Internet Browsing, video services, and video calls. The maximum speed of the internet during the pilot test could reach up to 21 Mbps.

Both telecom operators have dedicated specialized teams to handle customers’ queries to answer all their questions and assist them throughout the 3G Pilot period.

MTC said that inbound roamers using MTC touch network in the country will also experience the 3G services. The company said that after the pilot period it will run a survey amongst the participants to get their feedback about their 3G experience and the quality of the service.
