The revenues of the Port of Beirut (PoB) have increased to nearly $150 million in 2023 from an unprecedented low level of $9 million in 2020, according to Omar Itani, Director General of PoB.
He said revenues have been growing gradually since 2020 and that the port is no more suffering from liquidity problems.
The number of handled shipping containers jumped to around 800,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) from nearly 600,000 TEUs in 2022. Itani said that the container terminal is currently fully operational.
He said they plan to embark on a renewable energy project in PoB and that they have allocated 50,000 square meters to set up the solar panels.
