Lebanon 71st worldwide, seventh in Arab world in human development index: UN report

Lebanon ranked in 71st place among 187 countries worldwide on the Human Development Index (HDI), according to the United Nations’ Human Development Report 2011. The country came in seventh place among 19 Arab countries. It ranked ahead of Oman, Tunisia, and Jordan, and behind Libya, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.

In the 2010 index, Lebanon was ranked in 70th place worldwide, and in seventh place in the Arab region.

The Human Development Index (HDI) measures the average achievements in a country in three basic aspects of human development: health, education, and income.

Lebanon received a score of 0.739 points on the HDI. Its score came above the global average of 0.682 points, as well as above the Arab average of 0.641 points.

Lebanon ranked in 76th place globally on the Gender Inequality Index.
