Eco restaurant in Bekaa
Tawlet Ammiq, a new restaurant by Souk el Tayeb to preserve cultural heritage
Share
Tawlet Ammiq, a new restaurant by Souk el Tayeb, will open in the Bekaa valley this Sunday (May 13).
The eatery is located in the west Bekaa village of Ammiq, overlooking the valley and nearby wetlands. It is housed in one of the county’s most eco-friendly buildings that consumes 80 percent less energy to run than conventional buildings do.
The restaurant aims to preserve the region’s natural and cultural heritage and will serve naturally grown produce from local farms.
The establishment will also have a ‘Wines of the Bekaa’ boutique and tasting events, a store selling preserves and hand made crafts, and will even offer cooking classes. Future plans include a bed and breakfast, an agricultural development center, a research center, and a farmers’ market.
The eco-friendly restaurant project was initiated by Al-Shouf Cedar Society and NGO 'A Rocha'. The building's construction was funded by the Swiss Development Agency on land donated by Skaff Estate.
