The Arab-European Economic Forum, organized by the Union of Arab Chambers (UAC), the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the European Commission, will be held in Beirut on September 12 and 13.
Representatives from all Arab countries will gather, along with European representatives, at the UAC's headquarters to discuss prospects for Euro-Arab economic ties. Lebanon is hosting this forum for the first time.
The forum aims to strengthen investment and cooperation between the EU and the Arab world in light of the new directions of the European Neighborhood Policy. It will focus on identifying projects in Arab countries which the EIB can finance.
Imad Shehab, secretary general at the UAC, said that the EIB will give a briefing on its upcoming projects in the country during the conference. He said the country is already benefiting from numerous cooperation agreements with the EU.
The participants will be exploring new prospects for cooperation in the banking sector, in infrastructure, green energy, ICT, education, health, industry, and SMEs.
“The conference will convey a fundamental message that the country still has an economic role in the region as a vital link between the Arab world and Europe,” said Shehab.
