Prepaid phone cards Telecart and Kalam will be available to consumers within two weeks, the Ministry of Telecommunications (MoT) said. These cards had been off the market since April 2011.

Around one million cards will be issued as a first phase, said Talal Assaf, media advisor at the MoT. These cards generate around $60 million per year in Treasury revenues. Assaf said: “The new cards will be published through Inkript.” This is the company that used to print the cards before the interruption.

Kalam cards can be used from regular fixed line phones or from public phone booths. Telecart cards are only used through phone booths. Kalam is offered in two options: $10 credit or $30 credit. Telecart is offered in $6.6 and $20 credit options.
