The Zouk power plant has inaugurated the testing phase of its new environmental project launched on June 30, 2012, said Kamal Hayek, chairman of Électricité Du Liban (EDL). The plan aims at installing chemical pumping units to reduce emissions of sulfur trioxide (SO3) by 90 percent, carbon monoxide (CO) by 80 to 90 percent, dust, solid particles by 50 to 80 percent, and nitrogen oxide (NOx) by 15 to 30 percent. If the testing phase succeeds, the Zouk power plant will also be able to save around one percent in fuel consumption.
