The Council of Development and Reconstruction (CDR) launched the second phase of a project to rehabilitate water systems in the villages of the western Bekaa and Rachaya.
The plan involves extending distribution networks and water transport channels. This phase of the project was initially handled by the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development. “But since the contractor assigned by the fund did not commit to the timeline set by the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, the Cabinet tasked the CDR with executing the project,” CDR sources said. The Cabinet has transferred to the CDR $6.7 million to implement the works. The CDR had already conducted detailed studies for the rehabilitation works in the west Bekaa and some eastern villages of Zahleh.
The first part of the project constituted restoring potable water networks in the villages of Bar Elias, al-Marj, Raouda, Houch al-Harimeh, and Khiara. This part was funded by the World Bank.
