Measures fall under free trade agreement

Border crossing and transit fees imposed by Turkey on goods transported by trucks will soon be fully removed, the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation said. The agreement is reciprocal, which means trucks coming from Turkey will also be exempt from border fees.

“Efforts to exempt trucks from entrance fees were initiated in February, but some procedural barriers were hampering the full implementation of the free trade agreement,” said Abdul-Hafiz Al Qaisi, General Director of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation.

Turkey’s Minister of Transportation is visiting Beirut for talks on bilateral cooperation in this aspect. “We discussed the administrative obstacles facing the completion of this move.” The discussions are in the context of a number of bilateral agreements signed to free land, air, and sea transport between the two countries.
