The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation (United Arab Emirates) has dedicated $1 million to establish three new medical sections at the Dar Al Shifa Hospital in Tripoli: Heart and arterial disease, ophthalmology (eye medicine), and dialysis.
The hospital is owned by the Islamic Medical Association (IMA) which participated in funding the expansion work. The department of heart and arterial disease cost $850,000, while the departments of ophthalmology and dialysis cost $225,000.
Al Shifa Hospital Director Ahmad Khaled said: “The heart section is currently operating, but we still haven’t obtained a license from the Ministry of Public Health to launch the eye operations and dialysis sections.” He said both departments will be operational in two months.
The expansion also involved expanding the hospital’s maternity section. Khaled said: “One new room was added to the three existing delivery rooms.”
Dar Al Shifa Hospital comprises 150 beds. Khaled said: “The new departments created six jobs for doctors in the heart and arteries section, and will create jobs for six more physicians once the phtalmology and dialysis sections arelaunched.”
