Matelec wins electricity bid
$108 million deal awaits endorsement
Share
Matelec, a Lebanese manufacturer of electrical products, has won a tender by the Électricité du Liban (EDL) for the construction of 220 kV main high-voltage substations in Tripoli (Bahsas), Ashrafieh, and the southern suburb of Beirut. The cost of the project as stated in Matelec’s bid is $108 million.
Matelec is the preliminary winner of the bid. The tender contract will not be final until the Cabinet endorses it. Once approved, the project will take 24 months to be completed.
The installation of the substations is part of a project by the EDL to upgrade the transmission network across the country. Substations transform electricity output from a high-voltage level to a lower voltage.
According to the electricity plan, the enhancement of the transmission network project also includes installing one 220 kV high voltage substation in Dbayeh (Marina), which is currently being studied by the French power company Électricité de France (EDF).
