The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has signed a contract to renovate the History Museum of Sidon.
The project has a budget of $4.8 million and will be completed over a period of two years. KFAED has donated $4 million for the project while the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) will provide the remaining amount.
Maya Dergham, Media Coordinator at KFAED, said: “The contract includes the renovation of the old two-storey museum, as well as building special suspended paths for visitors.” The plan also includes the construction of a new building directly linked to the museum. “The building will be located at the northern end of the museum down by the city's archaeological site,” she said.
Khatib & Alami will be the main consultant on the renovation works as well as the new building, according to Dergham. The upcoming development will be built over an area of 1,600 square meters and will include modern assembly rooms for school field trips, a gift shop, and a cafeteria.
