Local mobile operator Touch and mobile application Anghami will launch the first in-app payment system in the country. This service allows Touch’s prepaid and postpaid users to pay for the Anghami app using an operator billing system instead of credit card payment.

Eddy Maroun, Co-Founder of Anghami, said that operator billing is more trusted in the local market than credit card payment. “An in-app payment system will be an efficient solution to all our users,” he said. Anghami and Touch in-app payment is only usable with Android phones.

Founded in 2012 by Eddy Maroun and Elie Habib, Anghami offers millions of songs to stream and download. It features licensed content from leading Arabic labels such as Rotana, Platinum Records, and Melody, as well as music from international studios such as Universal and Sony.

The app has up to 2 million downloads internationally, of which 150,000 local users. The premium version of the app costs $4.99. Users can use the app with its free version, but get access to limited features.

Maroun said that Touch will collect around 30 percent of the revenues the app generates from billing.
