Local bookshop concept Malik’s is expanding its operations in the local market with three new branches planned after the Al-Fitr holidays.

Malik’s will open one new branch inside the Le Charcutier store in Antelias, and another one inside Hazmieh’s Spinneys. A third outlet in Tyr will be Malik’s first franchised store.

With these new branches, the bookshop’s network will exceed 23 branches. “The company is tapping underserved territories to increase its support for clients,” said Malek Barakat, owner and Managing Director of Malik’s.

Malik’s aims to sell franchises across the country, except in Greater Beirut where it will open its own branches. Barakat said franchising is a good way to branch out because it entails less risks and more profitability. “We can ensure that our concept is led by people with better knowhow and experience in their region.”

According to Barakat, opening in malls is an attractive expansion plan because there is high footfall.

The company is also eyeing expansion in MENA markets, but deals are still in the negotiation phase. Malik’s will be franchising both its B-to-B and retail business.
