The second Turkish power barge, Orhan Bey, has docked in Jiyeh. The ship’s owner, Karadeniz, said it will take some two weeks for the ship to be connected to the power grid.
Électricité du Liban (EDL) and the Karpowership company, a subsidiary of Karadeniz, will be in charge of setting up the connections. The Orhan Bey and the currently operational Fatmagul Sultan, are expected to increase electricity supply to the national by some 270 MW.
Orhan Bey was originally scheduled to arrive last June, after the Fatmagul Sultan became operational. “Complications with the first power ship delayed the installation of proper ship equipment,” said Ralph Faisal, local representative of Karadeniz.
The Fatmagul Sultan had docked along the Zouk coast in March from where it was directly connected to the EDL main power grid. It now produces 188 MW.
The EDL will be responsible for guaranteeing the fuel supply.
