CDR seeks funds for Tripoli sports city
$80 million for fields and facilities
Share
The Council of Ministers tasked the Council of Development and Reconstruction (CDR) with securing funding for the sports city in Tripoli. The consultancy firm LACECO already finalized a study for the project. “The Ministry of Youth and Sports initiated this project now, because Tripoli lacks sports facilities,” said Yasser Abouchi, Advisor to the Ministry.
The cost of investment in this project will reach $80 million. “Finding the necessary funds in the form of either loans or donations would take time, especially under such economy conditions,” said Abouchi.
The sports city will be located at the entrance of Tripoli. It will be merged with the nearby Olympic field, reaching a total area of 60,000 square meters.
The sports city will include outdoor courts for a variety of disciplines such as handball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, aerobics, and gymnastics, as well as indoor courts with a capacity of 7,500 seats. It will also hold Olympic pools and indoor pools, as well as a sauna and Jacuzzi. An adjoining motel will host international teams.
Abouchi said: “The sports city will be able to receive international teams, because it will be executed according to international conditions and standards.”
The project will also include renovating the Olympic sports field that was built in a hurry in 2001 and does not comply with international standards.
