Miami and Beirut Sister Cities

Agreement to promote
business and cultural cooperation

The municipalities of Beirut and Miami (US) will sign a cooperative agreement to establish Sister City relations in the first quarter of 2014, according to Nadim Abou Rizk, Vice President of the Beirut Municipality.

“The agreement will enhance opportunities for collaboration between residents of these two cities by fostering cultural, social, and business exchanges,” said Abou Rizk.

The agreement will promote economic relations and share knowhow related to urban planning, sea ports, and the preservation of historical heritage sites.

The two cities will engage in different activities such as the organization of public spaces and the exchange of environmental and technical information. They will also work on academic and cultural exchanges, as well as the training of administrative cadres.

A permanent joint committee will be established to prepare annual agendas and oversee the implementation of projects.

The Beirut Municipality has signed many agreements with different cities around the world such as Los Angeles, Paris, Marseille, and Rabat. “We benefit from the experience and knowledge of each city,” said Abou Rizk.

The museum of Bab Beirut in Sodeco is being built with support of the Paris Municipality. Beirut’s public gardens are maintained thanks to the cooperation of the Région Ile-de-France. The Marseille Municipality also helped establish nine parks in different areas of the capital.
