The Ministry of Energy and Water has launched works to rehabilitate and strengthen the 66 Kilovolt (KV) lines stretching between the Ksara and Deir Nbouh power substations.
The project will be carried out over a period of 18 months. The first phase, which costs $23 million, was awarded to Mitas-Diyar, a joint venture between Turkish Mitas, specialized in design, production, and galvanized coating of steel towers, and local Diyar, specialized in engineering and contracting.
The two other phases, valued at $26 million, will be handled by an Iranian and Omani joint venture. The restored lines will allow for better conduction of power produced at the new Deir Ammar plant.
The project is part of the emergency plan to generate 700 Megawatts (MW) of power, which was approved by the Council of Ministers in 2011.
The Ministry also signed the collective labor agreement with four syndicates, at the oil facilities in Tripoli and Zahrani.
