USAID supports Jabal el Sheikh Honey
To boost exports to the US and UAE markets
Share
The Lebanon Industry Value Chain Development (LIVCD) project signed a co-investment agreement with Jabal el Sheikh Company, in its factory in Aley, on January 28.
LIVCD is a five-year project valued at $41.7 million and funded by USAID. It aims to generate income for small businesses and to create jobs for the rural population by building connections between farmers, producers, traders, and retailers.
The project will provide regional and international marketing support to increase Jabal el Sheikh’s honey exports and to support beekeepers. It will enable the export of 20 tons of honey, valued at over $200,000, doubling the value of the company’s honey exports, in one year according to the agreement.
To meet its requirements, Jabal el Sheikh will purchase most of the raw honey from 75 beekeepers in Hasbaya, Rachaya, the Chouf, Keserwan, Jbeil, and Donnieh.
This agreement will help Jabal el Sheikh Honey develop new market opportunities in the US and the UAE. It will also introduce two new types of honey, ‘Oak Mountain’ and ‘October honey’, to the US market.
