A grant agreement of $20 million was signed today between the Ministry of Culture and Qatar. “This initiative aims to support and finance the project of enhancing the National Library,” said the Ambassador of Qatar Ali Bin Hamad Al Marri.
The project is divided into three parts. First, the grant will be used to restore, build, and equip the public library. The work began in 2011 and will be accomplished by end of September 2014.
The second part of the project will be to renovate the literary and intellectual collection of books that the ministry possesses. The work is still in progress since 2003.
The third part is to prepare the necessary legal texts to manage the work of the library. This part was recently launched. Raymond Areiji, Minister of Culture said: “Upon approving the legal texts by the competent authority, a new board of directors will be assigned. Needed staff will be recruited as well, to manage the library.”
