The ‘René Mouawad Gardens’, otherwise known as ‘Sanayeh Garden’, is set to reopen for public on June 1st.

The garden had been undergoing restoration works entirely funded by Azadea Foundation. Marwan Moukarzel, CEO of Azadea, said: “Work was divided into two parts: The first is the garden’s restoration and the second is it maintenance.”

The Foundation signed a contract with the Municipality of Beirut granting it responsibility for the gardens’ maintenance for the next ten years.

“Our collaboration with the municipality is an example of successful public private partnership,” he said.

The garden stretches over 22,000 square meters of land, half of which is covered with green space. It includes three children playgrounds, a jogging track, and a theater. “Stakeholders are invited to hold their cultural activities and performances at the park, free of charge,” he said.

The cost of restoration reached $2.5 million.
