The Ministry of Telecommunications (MoT) has organized the pricing and the mechanism of selling mobile phone special numbers.

The MoT priced mobile phone numbers as follows: Regular special numbers ($100), bronze numbers ($150), silver numbers ($400), golden numbers ($800), and diamond numbers ($5,000). The six-digit sequence determines the classification of each phone number. The two mobile network operators have numbers available for sale in each category.

Platinum numbers can only be acquired through public auction after approval from the Minister of Telecom.

Random numbers cost $25 for prepaid lines, and $50 postpaid.

The new scheme is based on a study by the Owners Supervisory Board (OSB). It aims at stopping monopolistic practices, according to the MoT.

Special numbers are limited to postpaid numbers, except for the first category which could be obtained through prepaid subscriptions.

Subscribers will be limited to only one special number in each category, to avoid monopoly.

Subscribers will not b allowed transfer their number to another person, except if it is a family member.

When a special number is given up, its ownership is reverted to the operator.
