Founding members of the Lebanese Internet Center (LINC) held their first general assembly meeting on June 13. They elected five of its ten-member board and technical team.
Nabil Fahed, representing the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture was elected Chairperson. Other board members include Salam Yamout, from Women in IT (Vice Chairperson), Imad Hoballah Telecoms Regulatory Authority (Secretary). Bassam Jaber from the Lebanese Association of Telecoms (DSPs and ISPs) was elected Treasurer and Nabil Bou Khaled was elected as CEO and the representative of the board before public authorities. Abu Khalid was the person responsible for the Internet registry when it was under the tutelage of the American University of Beirut (AUB). The remaining positions and the technical team have still to be elected.
The Ministry of Economy and Trade (MoET) had launched LINC earlier this month. Its role is to organize the registration of domain names with the ‘.lb’ root. Previously, it was handled by the American University of Beirut (AUB).
