The government has signed two agreements with the European Union to support civil society in Lebanon.

The first was a $13 million donation aimed at “Reinforcing social justice in Lebanon". This contribution will go towards boosting the capacity of parliament at executing its legislative and regulatory capabilities. It will also go towards reinforcing human rights. Another tranche of the donation will go towards supporting dialogue between the government and NGOs over issues related to social justice.  This includes offering technical assistance to the Labor Ministry and the NSSF.

The other agreement was a $14 million donation aimed at “Reinforcing social unity in Lebanon”.  It will go towards reducing the tension arising from the Syrian refugee crisis and the pressure it is putting on providing them with various social services. Also, it will be allocated towards improving the collection of data and statistics, especially those related to socio-economic issues, as well as enhancing the quality and coverage of the NSSF. The Central Administration for Statistics will be supported to conduct advanced emigration surveys, and publish reports. On the social security aspect, assistance will be offered towards supporting the NSSF in the areas of strategic planning, and capacity building.
