Batco won a contract in July, to restore and develop a 14 km long road in Mayfouq, north of Lebanon.
Works will take two and a half years to complete. The Arab Fund is financing the $27 million project. Project engineer, Ziad Kassis, said: “Works are divided into two parts. The first goes from Mayfouq to Tartij. The second is a bypass between Makra and Lehfed.”
Restoration includes doubling the road’s width to ten meters. Support walls will be erected and infrastructure will be replaced. “We will also work on paving the entire stretch and flattening parts of the surrounding mountain,” he said.
Batco has entered its third year of development on a 25 km road between Amchit on the north coast and Mayfouq. Works are jointly financed by the government and the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED). The road will be completed within a year.
