The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) now provides expatriate students in private schools the opportunity to receive Lebanese baccalaureate and brevet certificates.
Albert Naim, Advisor to the Minister of Education, said: “There are initiatives from diaspora schools pushing for the adoption of the Lebanese curricula. Organizing the work of these schools has therefore become a must.”
MoEHE has received applications from 11 schools in Romania, Paraguay, Côte D’Ivoire, Ghana, Belgium, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Qatar, and Liberia to be licensed to teach these certificates. Their students will be eligible to sit for the official baccalaureate certificate.
Ahmad Cheikha, Managing Director of the Lebanese School in Qatar, said that expatriate students will take the official exams at the embassy at the same time that it is being administered locally.
Imad Achkar, Private Education Director at MoEHE said that a team from the ministry and Central Inspection Board (CIB) travels there to manage and control the whole process, at the expense of the applicant schools.
Cheikha said that Qatar was the first Arabian country to approve this concept and to provide the opportunity to offer the Lebanese curriculum and certificate in its schools.
Naim said that expatriates have shown interest in this concept, as it will allow their children to learn the Arabic language and continue their education at local universities.
