The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) issued recently a circular prohibiting time-sharing and leasing agents from using hospitality establishments like hotels, restaurants, and beach resorts to promote their packages.
Time-sharing is a tool used by promoters to enter potential customers in a prize draw or some other scheme, in exchange for attending a session to promote their products or services.
According to Nada Sardouk, Director General at the MoT, agencies practicing this marketing technique are becoming annoying. “Many among them offer fake services, tricking people and stealing their money by making them sign contracts,” she said. These activities are considered illegal by the MoT, as they are being carried out without its permission.
Sardouk said that they have received many complaints about these agencies, and several cases were taken to court.
“We are encouraging hospitality establishments to only welcome agencies with proven records of honesty and quality services,” she said. Measures will be taken against agencies that do not comply.
