“The plan is ready… I will submit it soon to the council of ministers for discussion,” Bassil said.

The Minister said that the plan’s main target is to secure 24/24 electricity for the people. “I refuse to raise tariffs before reaching this target,” Bassil said.

Bassil said that investments in the power sector are still at low levels and reached only $1.5 billion since 1991, while Lebanon’s “losses in electricity transmission, distribution, and bill collection reach $12 million a day.”

Bassil said that there is a real need to invest in building new dams which will help solve problems of both “the power and water sectors.”
