Agri research stations
to open in four areas

Including laboratories and weather forecast stations

The Lebanese Agricultural Research Institution (LARI), affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture, will open four stations in Akkar, Diman, Jbeil, and Nabatieh, during this year.

Each station will be specialized in the most common type of agriculture in its region. They will include weather forecast stations, as well as laboratories for testing the soil, water, olive oil, and honey. Michel Frem, Chairman of LARI, said that each station will include engineers and technicians to assist famers in agricultural issues. “Farmers in these rural regions are finding difficulty reaching LARI stations in Beirut and Bekaa,” he said.

Investment in the four stations is estimated at $1.3 million, including the cost of construction and equipment. The stations will be financed by LARI. Frem said that the locations were selected based on land ownership by relevant municipalities, the Ministry of Agriculture, and relevant convents, which they will grant to LARI.

The Global Quality Office appointed Frem Ambassador for Quality Performance. He was chosen due to his good performance in managing a public institution. Frem will be required to lecture in international conferences about good performance in administration.
