The Council of Ministers approved a project to expand the North Highway linking Dbayeh to Tabarja, allocating $35 million for the expropriation of property.

The expropriation file will be sent to a valuation committee at the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR), which will then start buying each property. In parallel, the CDR will prepare the prequalification file for of eligible contractors, who will submit tenders to participate in the execution of the project. Another tender will be held for the supervision of works.

The sections of the highway to be widened include Nahr el-Kalb, the Casino du Liban exit, the upper Jounieh crossway, Maameltein-Tabarja, the Sarba-Jounieh side road, and Zouk Mikael. Roads will also be widened in Haret Sakhr, between Ghadir and Sarba, Jounieh and Sarba, and Sahel Alma. A traffic junction will also be developed in Kaslik.

“These parts will be modified and widened and the areas where there are only two lanes will be increased to three. A service road separated by concrete barriers will be constructed on each side of the highway,” said Elie Helou, Transportation Engineer at the CDR.

The new scheme of works will only allow vehicular access to roadside stores from certain points, thus reducing traffic jams and accident risks.
