from The World Bank
Five-year framework program launches

The World Bank will launch on July 27 the Country Partnership Framework 2017-2022. The grand total of loans that will be part of the framework is $1.1 billion.

For the first two years of the framework, a $55 million loan will be granted through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The loan will be mobilized for the Lake Qaraoun Pollution Prevention Project.

Another $200 million will be directed at the Rural Roads and Employment Program over the years 2017-2018. The World Bank plans another $200 million to be approved for the Municipal Service Delivery, Local Economic Development, and Social Cohesion programs.

In 2018, a $50 million Land Administration System Modernization program should be approved by IBRD as well. During the same year and the subsequent year, a project for infrastructure investment to create sustainable jobs will be introduced. It will have a value of $120 million.

The Emergency Primary Healthcare Restoration Project will be scaled up, by receiving an additional $60 million.

The loans and donor grants for the International Development Association (IDA), The World Bank’s arm for poverty, will total $315 million between 2017 and 2019. The grants will be dedicated to the following programs: Reaching All Children with Education in Lebanon Support ($235 million), Subsidized Temporary Employment Program ($20 million), and Additional Financing to National Poverty Targeting Program ($60 million).

The State and Peace-Building Fund will finance a project for Leveraging Innovation in Financial Service Provision to Manage Crisis in Lebanon. It will have a value of $3.2 million and is expected next year.

According to the World Bank, there are over $761 million worth of projects it is currently carrying out in the local market.
