NGO consortium to implement water projects

The EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis (MADAD) has awarded $8 million to a consortium of three international NGOs to improve water and wastewater services across the country.

The consortium, dubbed Water Access and Development (WAAD), is tasked with providing local communities hosting Syrian refugees with improved water, sanitation, and hygiene infrastructure and facilities.

WAAD will have 25 infrastructure projects in Akkar, Bekaa, North, Mount Lebanon, South, and Nabatieh governorates. The projects will benefit around 200,000 people with improved access to water, a statement by WAAD said.

WAAD is made up of ACTED, Action Against Hunger, and INTERSOS. All three have significant experience in implementing water and sanitation projects locally.

The consortium’s local partners will support water establishments for Bekaa, North, and South Lebanon with capacity building programs, and implement institutional interventions to improve services in 19 schools, five health centers, and six detention centers.
