Tanmia to open
poultry farm in Egypt
$90 million project to meet
the increasing demand for chicken meat
Share
Tanmia, an agricultural development company, is planning to expand its business in Egypt and open a poultry farm in early 2020.
Tanmia operates in Egypt under the name Wadi, which was established in 1984 as a poultry production company, and diversified its investments into industries supporting its core business such as animal feed production, soya crushing, as well as the production of olive oil and fresh vegetables.
The project will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will include 60 farms, located 200 kilometers away from Cairo, each of which measure 200,000 square meters. Each farm is three kilometers away from any other farm for bio-security reasons.
Investment in the entire project is at $90 million, split in half for each of the two phases.
The project will be completed in 2023, with a production capacity of 120 million chickens per year. “Demand for chicken is growing rapidly in Egypt, especially as the prices of meat are considered high for the population,” said Musa Freiji, Chairman of Tanmia.
The second phase of the project will start in 2023, with the aim of doubling the number of farms and increasing the production capacity to reach 240 million chickens per year.
The entire project will create around 8,000 job opportunities.
