The newly elected board of the General Confederation of Labor Unions, (GCLU), met today, Wednesday, and decided to proceed with preparations to hold nationwide protests, a GCLU communiqué said.
The fiery communiqué said that the fact that the government has resigned does not relieve it from its obligation to secure the needs of the workers. “The most urgent priority of a caretaker government is to take care of the needs of its people,” said the statement. “Most important among such needs is reducing the prices of fuel, which are skyrocketing in the absence of any control, and are left to the whims of monopoly holders who are endangering the livelihood of the people,” it said.
The statement said that logistics preparations will be made in order to launch “several stages of nationwide protests that include sit-ins and demonstrations and will culminate in a general strike."
