The Ministry of Energy and Water issued today its weekly review of the prices of fuel, kerosene, diesel and gas. According to the new list, the price of 20 liters of fuel went up by LL300, 20 liters of kerosene LL400, 20 liters of diesel LL300, while the price of 12.5 kg. of cooking gas went down by LL100. Today’s list contradicts a controversial directive that was issued yesterday by the ministry which reduces the taxes on fuel by an undisclosed amount.  However, it is not clear whether the Ministry of Energy and Water has the authority to determine taxes. Such function is the prerogative of the Ministry of Finance and subject to the approval of the Council of Ministers. A spokesperson at the Ministry of Finance, said that “the new directive remains under review by the ministry in order to determine its legality.” In the meantime, the price increase on fuel will be implemented.
