The leader of the executive committee of the Confederation of Land Public Transport, (CLPT), Abdulamir Najdah, made a number of demands on the coming government. He urged the new Prime Minister Mikati to end the weekly upward review of the prices of fuel derivatives. He said that the tax on the price of fuel was unconstitutional because it was imposed by the Council of Ministers and not by parliament. Najdah called for abolishing custom duty on vehicles imported for public transport, and to legalize the use of diesel fuel and gas in all cars. He also demanded that the new government shut down the private company that was contracted to inspect the roadworthiness of motor vehicles. He said that the company was established “in order to bring benefit for some.” The committee will meet on Monday in order to reconsider the fate of the strike that is scheduled for February 10, he said.
